remembrance from Firenze

April 8, 2015

The first time I was in Florence at the age of 16. In these times I used to read ‚The Agony and the Ecstasy’ the novel very vividly describing the life and work of Michelangelo Buonarroti. It is since that time I’m crazy about the Italian Renaissance. And Michelangelo remains as my idol until today.

I walked through the streets of Florence like in a trance. Duomo, Signoria Square, the Uffizi, San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapel, the Galleria dell’Accademia, Ponte Vecchio, etc. I’ve been everywhere. However, from the trip I remember the most one event. I came to the Casa Buonarroti. Visiting Buonarroti family home was for me an obviousness. At some point I had to use the restroom. I found a small room with a distinctive stamp on the door. Old wall, stone floor … wow! I peed in a place where about 500 years before had peed genius of the Renaissance. It was a very strange feeling that I will remember for the rest of my life. This year, I did not go there. Spring has arrived in Florence in February so I just took a walk around the old town.
