I have no idea whether an interior designer would be a director of photography on a film.
However, I know a cinematographer who certainly is a great designer.
Interior design and motion pictures actually have a lot in common. The composition, light, color, texture … and that something elusive which causes that our work has its own unique atmosphere. Roger Deakins has shot many memorable films. Two of them – “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” and “The Man Who Wasn’t There” are my favorite. I’m really jealous of the Englishman’s talent. I would like to see interiors through his eyes, where each frame is beautiful and has meaning, where color and light create the mood, and it’s not the designer just showing off.
